THE RULES

A tale of murder, mayhem and the search for a priceless statue: The Maltese Falcon, aka the “Black Bird”.  As part of this year’s activities you can play the role of a private investigator and locate the “Black Birds” in Putnam County.

Beginning on January 9, 2025 twenty photo images of the “Black Bird” will be placed in various locations throughout Putnam County. These images will be in both public and commercial locations, but will be easily visible, if you look.

To play you must take a “selfie” with the image in its posted location. Both you AND the Falcon, with the image number, must be visible in your picture.

Save your photos in an album on your device.

Between February 15 and March 6 email your entry album to:

No entries will be considered before or after these dates. Your entry must include your name and a contact number. The winner will be the contestant who located the most Falcons. You need not have found all the falcons,

Cash prizes of $100/$50/$25 will be awarded at the Maltese Falcon Finale event, Thursday, March 13.

In the event of ties, winners will be selected by a drawing held at the finale event.

THE CLUES

15. Between Palatka and Melrose a former train stop is preserving its link with the past in this, Florida native plant named, park.

 

14. In these parts, Gators are familiar creatures with awesome teeth. You can sink your teeth into a piece of one, in this appropriately named sports grill.

 

13. In 1881, three sisters of faith settled in this small town. Bordering four counties, their Missionary Church served the faithful for 40 years.

 

12. Crossing the great St. Johns River here is easy. Visit the river front park and the “Center” for a special treat.

 

11. Across from this office you will find a nice piece of railroad memorabilia in west Putnam.

 

10. Say hey to the “Duke”, he has seen the Falcon here.

9. The oldest remaining White Cypress tree (over 600 years) in Florida, the vision of a great big lake, food, drink and good friends.

6. At the foot of the St. Johns River Bridge, grab a bite and relax with the view of the beautiful St. Johns River from the deck.
